Dearly Beloved Achens and STECI Members

Greetings in the marvelous name of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. Once again we are remembering the crucifixion, suffering and resurrection of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ during this passion week. Many eastern¬orthodox churches are observing 50 days Lent to partake in the sufferings of our Lord and they have many other rituals as part of the Passion Week celebrations. Being a reformed Church what is our stand and what do we do to be partakers in the suffering of our Lord. We observe the Passion Week to focus our attention on the Cross of Calvary and to give special emphasis of the Person and Work of Jesus Christ. Although, on all other days we preach and teach about Calvary and the death and resurrection of our Lord, Passion Week is set apart to think about it in a more special way. Apostle Paul says, Phil. 3:10 NIV “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…” Romans 8:17 NIV “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory”

Can we have part in His suffering? How do we share in His sufferings? Certainly we can have a part, by becoming co¬labourers with the Lord. God sent His Son so that nobody should perish but have everlasting life. God wants everybody to come into the saving knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When we partake in the very purpose of God we will be able to share in His sufferings. Apostle Paul suffered for the sake of the Gospel and the Love of Christ that constrained Him. We can have a part in sending a missionary or supporting a missionary or even praying for the work. Moreover, as we meditate upon the sufferings of our Lord during this Passion Week, let us deny a meal or two for ourselves, so that the money so saved could be sent for the support of a missionary. That is why the church set apart this week especially as Self Denial Week and our forefathers did it that way. May our Lord help us to partake in the sufferings of the Lord at least in a small way by denying a meal or two a day during this Passion Week and so save the money for the furtherance of the Gospel. The money you save by forsaking a meal or two a day will help us to feed an evangelist in Orissa, Gujarat, Malabar or High Ranges of Kerala where many haven’t heard the Gospel. Is it not a right way to partake with our Lord in His sufferings?

It is not only to deny a meal or two for a week but let us spend some time in prayer for our missions and missionaries. Please send your contributions to:
